Tourism minister Jaiveer Singh said on Monday that tourist facilities and services at key spots in Varanasi will get a facelift.
“Projects worth approximately INR 41.23 crore for various ghats in Varanasi have been approved, out of which INR 16 crore has already been released,” Singh said. He added that the places include Assi and Namo Ghat. Singh said that the ghats of Varanasi are the soul of the place.
“Beautification of these ghats will provide better facilities for devotees and tourists. This will offer tourists a unique and enriching experience while preserving the religious, historical and cultural significance of the ghats. The project also includes the restoration of some of the old ghats as well,” he said. Officials said that INR 8.28 crore has been earmarked for Dashashwamedh ghat, against which INR 3 crore has been released.
Likewise, the Gola-Namo ghat stretch has been allocated INR 6.18 crore, with INR 2.5 crore disbursed. Similarly, INR 8.25 crore has been sanctioned for Assi to Sant Ravidas ghats, with INR 3 crore released. Assi ghat itself will undergo restoration work worth INR 6.21 crore, out of which INR 2.5 crore has been provided.
The corridor from Assi ghat to Dashashwamedh ghat will see infrastructure improvements with a budget of INR 6.15 crore, for which INR 2.5 crore has been disbursed. Additionally, the revitalisation of the ghats between Dashashwamedh ghat and KV temple will be undertaken at a cost of INR 6.16 crore, with INR 2.5 crore released. TNN
